    The above math assumes only 1 hour of sunlight per month. I more reasonable scenario would be as follows. 600000 watts divided by 80 equals 7500 divided by 30 days equals 250. divide that by 4,5 hours of daylight per day and you get 56 panels.
    To check 56 panels x 80 watts = 4480 watts per hour. 4480 x 4.5 hours sun per day = 20160 watts per day. 20160 x 30 days per month = 604800watts.

    John is correct. The original poster’s 7500 solar panels would cover a number of acres.

    My neighbor across the street here in Palm Springs, CA has just gone solar with a total of 36 panels. In addition to household use, I have a swimming pool to power also so I expect I will need about 40 panels, covering about 3/4ths of my south-facing roof area.

    I agree with Jon, the calculation assumes 1 hr of sunlight a day. For someone like me who lives near the equator (Nairobi, Kenya) there is close to 8hrs of sunshine. So if that were my power usage monthly, then I would need :
    600*1000/80/30.42/8=31 panels.
    Note: 30.42 is the average no of days per month ( i.e. 365/12).

    Sam, Your A/C unit should tell you how many watts it draws. Just take that number and multiply it by how many hours a day it is running, then multiply it by 30, and that is the wattage it takes to run that AC over the course of a month. Then you can continue with the math above to figure out what wattage panel you would need to purchase.

    I also believe that the math above is only accounting for grid tie, and not for off grid or a hybrid system. Because you are going to have about a 75% efficiency if you do off grid or a hybrid system (Due to the inverter). So if that is the case you will need to multiply again by 25% to get your actual number for that type of system.
